The GL.iNet GL-AXT1800 (Slate AX) is the travel router I’m using as of Jan 2025.

I’m finding it really useful for having all of my personal devices “just work” when I go to a cafe, or stay in a hotel. Or, while I’m writing this now somewhere over the north Atlantic Ocean, on paid-for airplane wifi.

Not only does it put all of my devices safely behind a firewall, but it also let’s me (transparently to the devices) funnel them all through a VPN.

I can power it off of any USB wall wart, or my laptop, or a battery bank.

It handles public WiFi with captive portal really well.
