Intro
I went to Sweden for a week in January, 2025 for a visit. I was based out of Lund with occasional trips into Malmö. These are in the southern region known as Skåne.
Getting There
IcelandAir
Two words: Necessary evil.
Getting Around
Buses & Trains
The Experience
Everything is safe and clean. Bus drivers can be a little aggressive, especially with pedestrians trying to cross. Trains were often late and switching tracks, so give yourself some buffer.
The App
Skånetrafiken is the go-to place for regional transport. Your life will be 100x easier in Skåne region if you install the Skånetrafiken app on your mobile device.
Walking
Most of Lund is very walkable. And it’s all really safe.
Bicycles
Bicyclists are the first-class citizens here. If you’ve got a bicycle, you can get pretty much anywhere fairly fast.
Getting Fed
There are so many food options. Some of my favorites:
- Buljong (soup)
- Broder Jakobs (cafe/pastries)
Getting Rest
Forenom Aparthotel
This one was pretty well-priced. It’s set up more like a business apartment, not as much like a hotel. So you get a mini kitchen. Nobody comes and cleans anything until you leave, unless you pay extra. You also pay extra for that last cleaning (mandatory).
But it was comfortable enough, had everything I needed. It’s in a really walkable location, but farther away from bus stops and the train station. If I were going back I’d probably try to be closer to Lund C (central train station).
